Lake County Crisis Intervention Team

Lake County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a community-based program that focuses on the mental health needs of the population of Lake County, Indiana. This is an all-encompassing program that includes law enforcement, mental health professionals, mental health advocates, and a wide range of community partners who provide frontline mental health services. These community partners include but are not limited to faith-based organizations, medical professionals, hospital, behaviors health services, and the courts and criminal justice systems.

One of the most visible CIT services is the 40-hour CIT Officer training offered to police, fire, EMS, and paramedic departments. This training focuses on crisis intervention and de-escalation skills officers can use when on duty. Officers also receiving training on mental disorders, trauma-focused care, and special population needs.

Lake County CIT also plays an important role in program such as the development of mobile crisis services, crisis stabilization centers, and peer support services.
